Is It Because She's Lindsay Lohan? Or Its Because You Idiots Think She's Really Sorry?!

ONCE AGAIN, your giving her a REASON to do it again..and again..and again..SINCE she keeps getting away with it again..and again..and again.  Hopefully, I'm not the only one who sees that there is a problem with our "wonderful" justice system.  D.U.I., drugs, violating probation and shes get a slap on the hand like a child?!  I wonder if a working-class woman would get the same deal?  Or a hard working black man?  Of course she's going to smile in court or look sad/show sympathy; SHE'S AN ACTRESS! They are paid MILLIONS to play a role.  Not only is it not fair to our regular tax payers, it's a bad look for our nation & justice system, because we are suppose to be comfortable with depending on them..right?  Not just picking on Lohan, there are numerous of celebrities or pro athletes that give away with the law, NOT ALL though. But what we can all agree on is that MONEY TALKS!

A "HUNGRY" Poet

Knowing that I ate before I came to a poets, Paolo Corso, speaking event, I wouldn't of guessed that I would be hungry again, so soon.  I expected for the Italian blood poet to read some of her poems, but what I wasn't expecting what that most of her poems were based on Italians lifestyle of cooking.  Poems from "How Much Salt" to "How Long To Cook Pasta" made me not just think how hungry I was getting but how creative it was to use ingredients and receipes in her work.  Would make sense since she has won awards, such as Best Story in 2005 and has a Masters from NY College in creative writing.

Next time, I know to do research or at least bring some pasta with me.

Truly MARCH MADNESS

Who would have thought NO number 1 seed team, Ohio State, Kansas(picture above), Pittsburgh & Duke, would not get to the Final Four?!  NCAA Tournament is the most popular sporting event in the USA, with gambling, school & home team spirit, and that's how this tournament got its name "March Madness".  With gambling, you get a bracket and fill out which team you would think win it all.  It has been said, more money is gambled in this tournament than the playoff to Super Bowl in the NFL.

However, this year is a "bracket-buster".  Only TWO people out of 5 million, on ESPN NCAA Tournament Challenge, had the Final Four picks right, which were Kentucky, UConn, VCU and Butler, all teams are ranked below #3 seed (UConn being the only 3 seed).   1 million however did chose UConn, me being one & majority of the million being Tri-State people.

The great Cinderella story of this years tournament is a number 11 seed team, Virginia Commonwealth University who many people thought they shouldn't of even been in the tournament in the first place.  Even though the Final Four was their last stop, the last time an 11 seed team made it to the Final Four was in 2006 and before that was in 1986, LSU over Memphis St.  The lowest seed to ever win the Championship was a number 8 team, Villanova in 1985.

So those 2 people out of the 5 million should sure think about becoming analyst or play lotto. Who would of thought this years Final Four would come to this?? Truly a MARCH MADNESS!

Whats WRONG with people?!?

I happened to be on my Facebook and I saw my Facebook friends sister was killed.  I couldn't believe HOW she died though.

Kamisha Richards, 22 year-old college grad, was stabbed to death by her boyfriend's sister over 20 DOLLARS! I couldn't believe what I was reading.  It was all over the news, internet and Facebook.  Such a senseless act!

From New York Post, Richards and Kayla Henriques started argueing over Facebook about the $20 Richards gave Henriques for diapers for Henriques infant daughter.  Richards soon found out that she didn't use the 20 dollars for diapers, but something else (not stated what it was used for).  Richards confronted her, after the Facebook feud, at Henriques house in East Brooklyn New York and no one knows what happened except that Richards was stabbed to death.

Its truly sad that such a very young life was taken over a few dollars, not to mention what the boyfriend, Ramel Henriques is going through with his sister being the one responsible for his girlfriend of 7 years death.  Plus, the family and an infant daughter who more than likely won't see her mother ever again except behind bars.  All outcomes of this horrific story is devastating and it makes me wonder; WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE & WHATS GOING ON IN THIS WORLD?!  An educated woman trying to help her friend and she ends up dead???  They do say, "God works in mysterious ways".

Rest In Peace Kamisha Richards

Race Issues & Education

From Paul Steinmetz blog, he talks about his interview with Elizabeth Alexander, a poet and chariman of the African American Studies at Yale who was at Obama's inauguration.  She speaks on racial issues and the education system in the United States and how come its not being looked at as an important factor. “Education is incredibly important,” she said. “Issues of curriculum and curriculum reform are important. Kids have to go to school and we have to ask, are going to teach them about this important, complex country we live in or not?”  I replied:

As an African American woman, I agree there is work to be done. However, I think Americans are learning about race diversity through society and media. I’m not saying its the right way because a lot of media is stereotyping and manipulates its audience. More culture classes should be added to the school systems and not just African American culture, but Latin and others since there’s such a great amount of races in the nation. With my experience enrolling in a African American culture class, if a college class doesn’t have a good amount of people enrolled in it, it will be canceled, which it was. I honestly see that as a problem, not just with the school but with students as well. But, as a student, increases in tuition and so on, we fight for our classes towards our degree and even when we have room for electives, we try to get courses related to our major. And I bet with Obama becoming the first black president, we all thought there would be an increase in black history. I haven’t seen it except for the month of February, black history month go figure.

UConn vs Syracuse Tonight..But Who Cannot Bring up the 6OTs?

UConn Huskies vs Syracuse Orangemen are probably one of the biggest rival games in NCAA basketball, along with Duke Blue Devils vs North Carolina Tarheels.  In 2009, I dont think anyone was expecting the rival game to go that far; literally.

A regular college game has two halfs, 20 minutes each, total of 40 minutes of playing time. In 2009, UConn & Syracuse played for a total of 3 hours & 46 minutes.  The game ended at 1:22AM, 244 points made combined (final score being 127-117), 209 attemped FGs & 58 attempted three-point shots.  Eight fouled out players combined, but of course you would expect that with playing nearly 4 hours of basketball.

This 6 overtime game was the LONGEST in Big East history!  Wouldnt be the first time however UConn has made history:
-1st college ever to have the mens and womens basketball team win the NCAA Championship in the same year
-UCONNs women basketball team hasthe  longest winning streak in NCAA basketball history (90 games)

So tonight is a big rival game but I personally dont think the Huskies & Orangemen themselves can beat that game.  And with this crazy icey weather, I wouldnt think they would want to stay out until 1:30AM again.

Tune in to the rival game tonight at 7pm! Go Huskies!!!!!
