My name is Shannon, but a lot of people call me Shan or SP(initials for my full name). I was born in CT and I was also raised down in North Carolina(usually all summer). I have the best of both worlds, the city attitude and southern hospitality.
I am a transfer student from Naugatuck Community College with an associates degree in General Studies. I am pursuing a bachelors degree in Communication Studies. My main goal is to work in the sports field, wether it be ESPN, NFL, NBA or NCAA sports network. I would like be an analyst, broadcaster and/or reporter on specifically football or basketball. This summer, I'm aiming to do an internship for some type of sports network.
I have a huge love for sports. Not for the men that play the sports because of course that is what every one(particulary men) would say is the reason for a woman to love sports. I love the game. Being a daddy's girl, everywhere he went, I went and that was usually basketball/football games. Anything daddy watched, I watched and that would be sport games, sport tv shows, or any "man" type show. A lot of people would say I'm a man trapped in a womans body because my passion for sports. And with my knowledge of sports and passion for it, I want to use it in the future. I want a job I can actually say I love doing.
I have three jobs right that I enjoy doing. I am a skills instructor at a disability rehab called Ability Beyond Disability, a non-profit organization throughout Fairfield and Litchfield county. I'm also a waitress/bartender at a sportsbar named Maxwells in Danbury CT. My aunt and uncle own the bar and its been a very successful bar with positive remarks on food, service, special events and environment and we have very loyal customers that come every week. I am also a club promoter for a very known DJ, DJ Big Mike. I promote for college parties and any other events he has planned.
So my time is very limited and I never have any days off when the semester starts. I did a great job last semester with a 2.9 GPA and having no days off.
I have come along way, sleep deprived, stressed and all, but I'm not a quitter and when I say I want to do something, I do it. The word "can't" is not in my vocabulary. I believe theres nothing thats imposible if you bput your mind to it. No one can stop you accomplish your goals except yourself. So reach for the stars and hold on to it!
Wow. I didn't realize how much you have going on! It's nice to see that I'm not the only person my age that has a full plate and is determined to get where she wants no matter what. I have 2 jobs, I bartend and I'm a mommy and am taking a full course load this semester. And I agree that nothing is impossible! Accepting yourself is a huge part in success.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jillie. Im very determined to get to where I want to get, and not where people want me to go. Age is nothing nowadays haha. As long as your doing what you want to do, everything is a-ok!
